The Karnataka Poultry Farmers and Breeders Association (KPFBA) in India is demanding that the government act against traders hoarding corn. The Association said hoarding was driving up corn prices, leading to higher production costs. “This, in turn, has led to a decline in chicken consumption,” they added. KPFBA President Sushanth Rai noted that hoarding exacerbated the current shortage in the market, which resulted from a drop of 15-20% in this season’s harvest. These factors have raised the price by 35% between October 2021 and April 2022.
