An Indian Supreme Court panel appointed to investigate safety protocols at the Ghazipur poultry market in New Delhi found serious health code violations. The market is the main center for poultry sales in the capital, with close to 400,000 live birds traded daily. Improper waste disposal, selling of live and slaughtered birds in the same place, and sales of sick birds were just among some of the violations. Earlier this year, the market was flagged as a possible epicenter for the spread of avian flu.
